Bomb blast in Lahore
Police officers search for clues at the scene
At least 14 people have been injured in a bomb explosion in the Pakistani city of Lahore, according to police.
Hospital officials said most injuries were caused by shrapnel and flying glass. One of those injured is said to be in a serious condition, having lost both legs in the blast. The casualties also included a woman and a child. Residents described people fleeing in panic after the bomb went off in the narrow lanes of a shopping area. It is not yet known who carried out the attack, which happened about midday local time. Earlier attacks There have been several attacks recently in Punjab province, of which Lahore is the capital. Last week, a bomb exploded in the city of Gujranwala, killing a policeman. And earlier this month, at least seven people were killed and five wounded after a bomb went off in the city of Gujrat. That bomb had also been planted in a heavily-populated area of the city. In recent years, there has been a series of bomb explosions in Pakistan, killing and wounding scores of people. Pakistan blames its neighbour India for carrying out acts of sabotage - a charge which India denies. |
