Sikh separatist leader returns to India
The Sikh separatist leader, Jagjit Singh Chauhan, has returned to India from Britain, after a 21-year absence.
A lawyer for Mr Chauhan said a petition was filed on Monday seeking bail if his client was arrested on his return. The lawyer said the petition was likely to be heard today. At the height of the separatist campaign in Punjab in the 1980s, Mr Chauhan declared Punjab a separate Sikh nation, renamed it Khalistan, opened some foreign embassies, and issued passports and a new currency.
