The earthquake which has caused devastation and deaths in India was also felt across a wide area of Pakistan It has killed 12 people, including three children.
But the earthquake shook Pakistan's commercial centre, Karachi, for about a minute, causing cracks in buildings and breaking windows. In Hyderabad 150km (93 miles) away, two children were killed when a four-storey building which was under construction collapsed. Other buildings and some roads in the town were damaged. Aftershocks fear Local authorities said while government buildings were constructed to withstand earthquakes, most private buildings were not. The earthquake was also felt in the town of Peshawar more than 1,000km to the north. The meteorological office says it expects some small aftershocks.
