Charges over Delhi model murder
A court in the Indian capital, Delhi, has charged a former minister's son with the murder of a model in a case that scandalised Delhi high society.

Judge SM Chopra said there was enough evidence against Manu Sharma for him to stand trial.

Jessica Lal: Shot dead at a restaurant
He is the son of former federal minister, Vinod Sharma.

He is alleged to have shot dead model Jessica Lal, who was working as a bartender at a well-known restaurant, Tamarind Court.

She had refused to serve him a drink after midnight - something which is prohibited by licensing laws.

Police investigations are reported to have found that Sharma's gun was unlicensed and that the restaurant was flouting a number of building laws.

The establishment is run by well-known Delhi socialite, Bina Ramani.

The case attracted enormous publicity at the time, and shone a spotlight on the sometimes racy lifestyle of Delhi's elite.

The court has also charged six others, including a former cricketer - Yograj Singh - as well as Vikas Yadav, the son of another minister - for either shielding or abetting the main accused.

The trial is scheduled to start early next month.
