4,000 Bangladeshi students expelled for cheating

Efforts by authorities in Bangladesh to prevent mass cheating in a compulsory examination at the National University appear to have failed again this year.

At least four thousand students taking the English exam for the graduation test have been expelled amid widespread cheating at a number of exam centres.

Reports say about a hundred examinees were injured at one centre in clashes with police who'd been deployed to prevent friends from helping in the deceit.

A BBC correspondent in Dhaka says the annual ritual of cheating has grown worse each year and authorities seem powerless to stem it.
