Deer poaching doubles in England and Wales

The number of deer being illegally killed and taken by criminal gangs in England and Wales has doubled in the past year, according to police figures.

Demand for venison is driving much of the poaching, but the illegal meat is not subject to the strict meat safety standards which usually apply.
