'Core' apple species under threat

Scientists in Kazakhstan fear the forests from which all cultivated apples originated may be at risk of dying out.

It is believed that the first apples grew in the area and now experts are trying to preserve the wild forests and the genetic pool they contain.

Rayhan Demytrie reports.
