The space agency NASA is preparing a landmark test launch this week - which it hopes could pave the way for future space exploration.

On Tuesday, weather permitting, the first test flight of a next-generation launch system known as Ares 1 will blast off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Scientists hope the rocket will be able to fly up to six astronauts to the international space station or beyond.
