Tags to track where rubbish goes

Thousands of pieces of rubbish are to be tracked using mobile tags.

Scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are using the devices in an attempt to find out what happens to our waste once it has been thrown in the bin.

They plan to carry out their Trash Track project in Seattle, New York and London.

Here, Carlo Ratti, director of the Senseable City Laboratory, explains how the tags will work.
