Professor Deb Roy of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has recorded every movement of his son's waking life over three years to shed light on how babies acquire language.
The Human Speechome Project, as it is known, uses 11 cameras and 14 microphones installed in the scientist's home.
In this recording, his son learns to say "water" over time.
