Scientists drill earthquake zone

A pioneering research project off the coast of Japan aims to bring the day closer when earthquakes become predictable.

For the first time scientists are drilling into the place deep in the Earth's crust where earthquakes begin.

Researchers are working on board Japanese vessel the Chikyu, the world's most advanced scientific drilling ship.

Richard Black reports from off the coast of Japan.
