Driving along the ocean floor

Chikyu, a scientific vessel is investigating the earth beneath the seabed off the coast of Japan.

It is hoped the work will help scientists to understand earthquakes that occur in the area.

Jason Dow is in charge of the ROV (remotely operated vehicle) on board the state of the art drilling ship Chikyu.

He shows us what it is like to control the vehicle on the floor of the Pacific Ocean.
