Array to probe new areas of space

The first stage of the switch-on of one of the world's most powerful stargazing systems has got under way.

Seven radio telescopes around the UK have been linked with optical fibres, replacing the older microwave technology that once connected them.

Astrophysicist Tim O'Brien tells BBC science Rebecca Morelle how the new array will help them to probe deeper into space than ever before.
