'Perfect storm' poses global threat

The government's chief science advisor Professor John Beddington has warned that growing world population will cause a "perfect storm" of food, energy and water shortages by 2030.

He said the other problem which should not be ignored is the issue of climate change.

Professor Beddington told the BBC that failure to address the situation would lead to shortages which would leave the world's poor the worst affected.
