Whales attack one-tonne sea lion

A clash between four giant killer whales and a one-tonne sea lion has been captured on camera.

A BBC team filmed the whales as they launched a co-ordinated attack on a lone male sea lion, beating it to its death.

While attacks on smaller sea lions are common, it is rare for the killers to take on such an enormous and therefore potentially dangerous creature.

The footage, filmed off the coast of North America, forms part of BBC wildlife series Nature's Great Events.

Nature's Great Events: The Great Feast on Wednesday 18 March on BBC One at 2100 GMT and is repeated on Sunday at 1800 GMT
