Leap second: Keeping time on time


Peter Whibberley at the National Physical Laboratory in Middlesex is called the "time lord" by his colleagues. He looks after one of the most accurate clocks in the world.

He explains how on New Year's Eve it will add a second to the UK's national time scale to the reconcile atomic time with that created by the Earth's rotational movement.
