A new species of parasitic vampire catfish has been discovered deep in the Guyanese rainforest.

This species fell out of the gills of a banana catfish; it was feeding off its blood.

It is also notorious for its ability to lodge inside the human body.

The species was discovered by a BBC crew who were filming for a new nature series.

UK viewers can watch the first episode of the three-part series Lost Land of the Jaguar on BBC One at 2000 BST on Wednesday 30 July
