The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund is to set up its own Web site on the Internet so that people all over the world can find out more about its work.

The charity's trustees are hoping to have the site up and running by the summer and are confident it will be a popular choice.

"We want to have a Web site so people can read details about the fund and about the projects we support," said trustee Vivienne Parry, who met the Princess through charity work.

"The memorial fund is a public fund with public money so it has to be open and all these things that people expect.

"The Web site will answer all the questions people ask."

The question of proper use of the charity's funds is a sensitive issue.

Last month, the institution announced that all future professional legal work would be put out to tender, following the disclosure that London lawyers Mishcon de Reya had sent a £500,000 bill for legal services to the charity.

Anthony Julius, a partner in the firm and the man who represented the princess during her divorce from Prince Charles, is interim chairman of the fund.

The fund manages the income from the the sale of CDs, videos and other memorabilia on Diana.

US office for donations

The charity's administrators have also announced that they are to open a new office in the United States by spring in order to make the most of the princess's popularity in the United States.

It will be the fund's first office outside the United Kingdom and is being set up because Americans cannot get tax concessions if they donate to British charities.

Ms Parry said: "If you raise money in the USA you need to have an American foundation otherwise if they give to a British foundation they cannot claim tax advantages which is important to some people."

The fund will have staff in the USA but costs will be kept to a minimum by sharing office space, probably in New York, with another organisation.

The institution will begin to redistribute the money to the princess's favourite charities in March.
