Health stories were high on the news agenda on School Report News Day 2009. Here are the highlights.

How a hospital is tackling MRSA

As they go to school in a hospital, students from the Royal Free Hospital Children's School in London take health and safety seriously. That's why they decided to find out about MRSA and what their hospital is doing to tackle it.

School Reporters at Belvoir High School

Over the past decade, hospitalisations for eating disorders such as anorexia have increased by 80%. School Reporters from Belvoir School in Leicestershire spoke to a teacher, counsellor and former anorexia sufferer to get their opinions about the cause of this dramatic increase.

Jade legacy 'to last'

Jade Goody

Reality television star Jade Goody's public battle with cervical cancer will have a lasting impact on health policy, teenagers are suggesting. School Reporters at Heathfield School in Middlesex found most girls believed the health benefits outweigh the risks of a new cervical cancer vaccine.

Students from Les Beaucamps High School speak to Di Lawrence from Guernsey's Health Promotion Unit about cervical cancer and the jab that helps protect against the disease.

Students from Desborough School in Berkshire were given the chance to feel the effects of drinking too much alcohol - without touching a drop. School Reporters tried on the glasses which impair the wearer's responses by making it difficult to see clearly.

Some teenagers drink to be popular

A survey of teenagers' attitudes to alcohol found that 15% of teenagers surveyed drank alcohol to be popular. the survey was carried out by School Reporters at The Vyne School, Basingstoke.

A birthday poem for the NHS

Michael Rosen

Students from Haggerston School in Hackney went to the 60th birthday celebrations of the NHS at the Museum of Childhood. They interviewed children's poet laureate Michael Rosen, who wrote a poem to mark the occasion.
