Chickens are becoming very popular pets and one local store has made the most of this in their advertising.

Chickens drew the crowds at the Joules store in Marlborough
"Living the good Life" is the theme for this season's fashions at Marlborough store in Joules.

Not only does their shop window have cardboard chickens, at the end of February they had real chickens in the store. And it was not only a hen night!

Rocky the Rooster, Wendy the Welsummer and Carmel the Cuckoo Bantam came to the store.

Angie Bell, the store manager at Joules, said the store was really busy that day as lots of people came to shop and look at the chickens. Angie said that it was really good fun.

Andrew Cole, a chicken expert, was on hand to answer questions and give out leaflets on the Saturday.

A representative from Omlet, the designers of the fashionable "Eglu", said that their sales have increased greatly over the past two or three years and are introducing new designs and colours.

'Living the good life' was the store's springtime theme
They have put this down to the concept of "living the good life".

Now with the recession, more people are keeping chickens, not only as pets, but also for the eggs.

With the possibility of over 300 eggs a year and the yearly expense of £100 on supplies that's pretty "cheep"!
