She was not very happy, and everyone thought it was terrible

A pupil who is facing deportation is the focus for School Reporters at Shawlands Academy in Glasgow.

A petition to help the 14-year-old Turkish girl, who does not want to be named, is circulating at the school.

Joint editors Mark and Krishan, both 13, are deploying their investigative reporters, Jordan and Robbie, also 13, on the breaking news story.

"I have told them to ask the headmaster about why this is happening and what he thinks about it," Mark added.

Shawlands Academy already has a support group for pupils seeking asylum, and Mark is also keen to secure interviews with some of the children involved.

Pupils decided to launch their petition as word of the Turkish girl's possible deportation spread through the school.

"She was not very happy, and everyone thought it was terrible," Mark added.

Mark hopes covering the story on the school's news website will make a difference. His only concern is finding pictures that do not identify the girl.
