The number of insolvencies in the retail industry is growing very rapidly, a PriceWaterhouseCoopers reports says.

David Chubb, one of the authors of the report, says the retail industry "stands out as the one sector to have moved the opposite way to everyone else".

"A fundamental part of the challenge in the retail sector at the moment is that consumers are struggling," he told the Today programme.

Stephen Robertson, director-general of the British Retail Consortium, warns that if people are "stopping shopping" and creating new shops, other sectors such as transport and construction will be hit.
