The rise of Hitler, the Cold War and gay liberation: Christopher Isherwood's literary diaries chronicle many of the defining moments of the 20th century.

The second volume of diaries by the acclaimed novelist has just been published, focussing on The Sixties. Alongside his commentary on the changing times, Isherwood explores his turbulent relationship with the young artist Don Bachardy. David Hannah has been talking to Bachardy about that and his life after Isherwood.
