The African Union has pledged to send a further 2,000 soldiers to Somalia, and to introduce tougher rules of engagement, in the fight against Islamist militants.

The decision was taken at an AU summit in Uganda. The Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, says the continent needs to work in concert to sweep out terrorists.

The change in engagement rules comes after the Somali based group, Al-Shabab, claimed responsibility for attacks in Uganda which left more than 80 dead.

Zeinab Badawi spoke to President Museveni about Uganda's toughening stance.

World News Today with Zeinab Badawi is broadcast weekdays at 1900, 1930 and 2000 GMT on the BBC World News channel. Find out more information about regional broadcast times here.
