Puerto Rico struggles during the economic downturn

Puerto Rico may be a Caribbean island but it remains a US colony and while they are US citizens, Puerto Ricans cannot vote for the US President or his policies.

Now the economic downturn plaguing the US has hit the island even harder. Unemployment stands at 17% and job prospects look particularly bleak for the young.

Maria Hinojosa from National Public Radio's Latino USA sent this special report.
