Ancient documents reveal legacy of Timbuktu


Timbuktu is a city with mythical status that once served as a centre for scholars, but is now an impoverished town where residents struggle for survival.

In an attempt to preserve the rich heritage of the area, thousands of ancient manuscripts which have been unearthed are being restored so they can be put on display.

Andrew Harding travelled to Timbuktu to have a look.
