The art of oil

When Edward Burtynsky turned his thoughts and his camera towards oil and gas, he wanted to photograph an invisible thing that we never experience directly but that we live with every day and every second.

"It is a world so vast that no camera and no book can actually capture," Burtynsky says.

The collection consists of 55 colour landscapes and his exhibition "Oil" is on display at the Corcoran Gallery of Art from October 3 - December 13, 2009.
