Now here's an idea which most politicians agree on: localism - taking power from the centre at Whitehall and handing it over to local communities.

Would David Cameron allow councils more freedom?

Only last week the government told councils in England it would remove the red tape which stops them responding to concerns about anti social behaviour, for example.

The Lib Dems say they've long believed public services like health and education should be controlled locally.

And the Conservatives? When they were last in office they were accused of taking power away from local government. But now their leader, David Cameron, is promising to decentralise if he wins the election.

Our reporter Keith MacDougall has been to a seaside resort in Essex, where the local Conservative MP intends holding Mr Cameron to his word.
