Navigating the clear red water

The Labour Party is to get a new leader - and it will happen about 4 o'clock on 1st December.

Rhodri Morgan
Almost time to go... Rhodri Morgan

Relax, Mr Brown. It's the Welsh Labour Party we're talking about.

They're electing a successor to Rhodri Morgan, who is retiring after nearly a decade in charge.

During that time he's also been First Minister in the National Assembly for Wales and has dominated Welsh politics.

At first, Labour in Wales prospered under his leadership, but in recent years there've been signs of serious decline in the party's fortunes.

In the National Assembly elections in 2007, Mr Morgan only held on to power by doing a deal with the nationalist party, Plaid Cymru.

Then in June this year - catastrophe. Labour was beaten by the Conservatives in elections in Wales to the European Parliament.

Stephen Low has this report on the decline of Welsh Labour.
