That's exactly the question the all party Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee has been asking since it started an inquiry into pig farming last autumn.

British pig farmers complain that they find it very difficult to cope with foreign competition because welfare standards are much higher in this country
They say consumers prefer lower prices even if it means the pig has a poorer quality of life.
MPs on the committee have also been asking if supermarkets are treating pig farmers fairly and they'll be publishing the conclusions of their inquiry later this month.
Leala Padmanabhan has been talking to the MP who chairs the committee, the Conservative MP Michael Jack.
Her report begins with a plea from British pig farmers for the public's support.
