David Cameron promised a "bonfire of the quangos" - but what is a quango?
On Monday's Daily Politics the Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Phillip Hammond did not answer how many of these bodies would be for the chop.
He accepted the BBC was not a quango - but the Conservative party later sent us this list of the top 20 "quangocrats".
Several of the names and positions on the list are from the BBC, three from Channel 4, three from British Nuclear Fuels and three from the FSA.
The Conservative list of the top 20 remuneration packages for unaccountable publicly-funded bodies in 2008 shows the top 20 people account for a total of £12.7 million - and an average of £640,000.
1: Andy Duncan:
Chief Executive, Channel 4. Total salary package: £1,211,000.
2: Lawrie Haynes: Former Chief Executive, British Nuclear Fuels Limited. Total salary package: £1,139,016.
3: Kevin Lygo: Director of Television, Channel 4. Total salary package: £888,000.
