On the day of the Pre-Budget Report Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling have increased their lead over David Cameron and George Osborne as the team most trusted on the economy to 19% (up from 11% on October 17th) according to an Opinion Poll conducted for BBC2's Daily Politics programme, to be broadcast today at 12:00pm.

When asked in the poll who people trust most to steer Britain's economy through the current downturn, 47% of those polled said Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling (up from 42% on 17th October); 28% said David Cameron and George Osborne (down from 31%); with 4% of those polled saying Nick Clegg and Vince Cable (down from 7%).

In the same survey, 65% of those polled said they had cut their spending because they were worried about the future. The majority of those polled (54%) said they would not spend more if the Government cut their taxes compared with 43% saying they would spend more.

79% of those polled also believe that any tax cuts now will just mean higher taxes in the future. This compares with 19% who disagree.
