Mara's Homemade is a family-run restaurant which serves up wonderful homemade Southern cuisine - including familiar dishes like jambalaya to more exotic fare such as alligator nuggets.
The eponymous Mara is a mother of four whose home-style recipes were handed down to her by her mother-in-law. Some other specialties include broiled crawfish, Shrimp and Shrimp Creole, blackened Redfish and Catfish New Orleans.
Mara's Homemade is surrounded by Indian restaurants in a section of 6th Street known as 'Curry Row' or 'Indian Row'. Fans of Indian cuisine can also make for Little India - also known as Curry Hill - located on Lexington between East 26th to East 31st Streets.
