La Glorieta Tango

Map showing location of La Glorieta

Whether you're a dancing fanatic or have two left feet, it would be a crime to visit Buenos Aires without attending a 'milonga', or public tango dance.

Tango developed in the late nineteenth century in the dance halls and brothels of lower-class districts of Buenos Aires. It took a while for this passionate dance to become socially acceptable, but there's now no avoiding it in the Argentine capital.

Tango dancing events often include classes for attendees to brush up their technique, so don't worry if your skills are rusty - or non-existent!

Barrancas de Belgrano is a great place to experience tango al fresco. Head for the bandstand in this charming park to see 'milongueros' of all ages in action. And if you don't already have a partner, just stand around the edges and you're sure to find one.
