JAKOB TIGGES' BERLIN
|
Jakob Tigges is a young German architect and academic who became known through a series of artistic and provocative urban design proposals. Jakob studied architecture and sociology of communications in Aachen, Rome and Berlin as well as management at the London School of Economics. Since graduating in 2000 he has worked in architectural practices in the Netherlands, Spain and Germany before going on to teach urban design at the Technische Universitaet Berlin. He teaches Architectural and Urban Design at the Norwegian University of Science & Technology and heads up Mila, an agency for architecture and creative services based in Berlin. Jakob recently created something of a storm with his proposal that a 1000-metre mountain - 'The Bereg' should be created on the site of Berlin's former Templehof Airport. In August 2010, his agency Mila won an international competition to develop an exhibition space within the new Humboldt Forum - another controversial building project which will reconstruct Berlin's imperial city palace on the site of the former East German parliament.
