Sitio Roberto Burle Marx

Map shows the location of the Sitio Roberto Burle Marx

Barra de Guaratiba is a well-heeled coastal neighbourhood with the Bay of Sepetiba on one side and wild greenery on the other.

Set in lush mangrove swamps and tropical forest is a memorial to Roberto Burle Marx, Brazil's famous landscape designer. Marx was the mastermind behind Rio's swirling mosaic beachfront walkways and was the first designer to use Brazilian flora in his projects.

His home and gardens are now a museum and are decorated with more than 3,500 varieties of plants including many rare and endangered species.

Environmentalist Guido Gelli visits the home of Roberto Burle Marx, Brazil's famous landscape designer.
