PAPA DEE'S STOCKHOLM
Papa Dee

Daniel Wahlgren - or Papa Dee - is Sweden's reggae pioneer. Singer, DJ, producer and reggae MC, Papa Dee is a well-known face on Stockholm's club scene and regularly tours the world as a solo artist and with New York's Brooklyn Funk Essentials.

The 'Afro-Scandinavian Viking' has been releasing records for twenty years since his debut single Funky Raggamuffin/Let The Music Play, which fused dancehall and hip hop. His first album, Lettin' Off Steam, was produced in 1990.

Recently, Papa Dee has travelled the world in his own TV series - a music documentary featuring jam sessions with local musicians. While recording an episode in Jamaica, he put together a band consisting of some of the legendary musicians who created the sound for artists such as Bob Marley, Pete Tosh and Burning Spear. The creative vibe was so good that they decided to record a whole album together - to be in the legendary Anchor Studio with these musicians was a childhood dream come true for Papa Dee.

Back in Sweden, Papa Dee runs regular club events in Stockholm and hosts a weekly radio show playing "reggae, ragga, hip hop, ska, rocksteady, soul, funk, pop…and whatever sounds good". That's when he's not collecting records - he has over 10,000 in his collection.
