Colin went to school at Wembley in London and began his broadcasting career in the 1960s doing administrative work for Granada and Westward Television.
He then joined Radio Caroline, before becoming a club DJ and later moving to BBC Radio 1.
Colin joined BBC Radio 2 in 1973, where he presented various programmes and started reading the news.
Over the years he's made a number of television appearances - he's the regular spokesman for the UK jury in the Eurovision Song Contest.
