Liam Byrne's spending joke was on the electorate

A letter left at the Treasury by former minister, Liam Byrne to his successor read: "Dear chief secretary, I'm afraid to tell you there's no money left."

Labour's Caroline Flint says it was a "stupid joke" but political journalist Douglas Murray says the problem is that the joke is on the electorate.
