Four schools have won the right for nominated pupils to help make a BBC One Question Time programme.

Each of the schools will select two pupils to join the production team for a special Schools Question Time programme on 10 July.

The four schools chosen from all those taking part in this year's Schools Question Time Challenge are:

  • Gwernyfed High School, Powys
  • Holyhead School, Handsworth
  • Ringwood School, Ringwood
  • The Tiffin Girls' School, Kingston Upon Thames

St. Stephen's High School, Inverclyde will also be attending the filming of the special Schools Question Time programme after being awarded 'Highly Commended' by the judges.

The schools won their place in the final by applying for a citizenship education pack which helped them write a proposal showing how they would stage a Question Time event with details of the panel they intend to approach and topics to be discussed.

2008 FINALISTS
Gwernyfed High School, Powys
Pate's Grammar School, Cheltenham
Ringwood School, Ringwood
Ilford Ursuline High School, Ilford
St. Stephen's High School, Inverclyde
Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College (BHASVIC), Hove
Beal High School, Ilford
Holyhead School, Handsworth
St. Edwards College, Liverpool
Newham Sixth Form College, Plaistow
The Tiffin Girls' School, Kingston Upon Thames
Warlingham School, Warlingham

The pack is also designed to support the citizenship curriculum through lesson plans and other learning tools.

By participating in the challenge, pupils learn about citizenship, contribute to stimulating discussions, improve their speaking and listening skills and engage with members of the community.

The schools finalists then had to make their proposed plans a reality by staging their own Schools Question Time debate.

Each finalist event was visited by judges who evaluated the debates and elected the four schools as the Schools Question Time award winners.

This special edition programme will be broadcast in the regular time slot on BBC One on 10 July 2008.
