Gordon Brown is 'still looking for Corus buyer'

Gordon Brown 'looking for Corus buyer'

The Prime Minister has told the Politics Show that efforts are continuing to try to find a buyer for the Corus steel plant on Teesside.

The plant is being partially mothballed but Corus has insisted this is only a temporary measure.

Unions say the mothballing - which will mean 1,600 jobs being cut - is happening prematurely and have threatened industrial action.

Gordon Brown was speaking in Durham on the occasion of the cabinet's first meeting to the North East, which has been criticised as a gimmick by the Conservatives.

The Politics Show broadcasts at 1200 GMT on BBC One and for seven days after on the BBC iPlayer
