We asked you what you thought about organic food and farmers' markets, and here are some of your responses:

Why are farmers markets so expensive when they've cut out the middleman.
Steve, Hungerford

Years ago council had large gardens to grow their own veg but now they are overgrown or full of old cars
Anon

Allotments, This isn't about the need for development land its about who owns it & its value
Anon

THE PRICE OF FOOD IN THE UK IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THE REST OF EUROPE. THAT IS FROM PERSONAL EXPERIANCE.
A.GRAY, PORTSMOUTH.

This destruction of allotments 4 housing is unnecessary. THERE R 700,000 EMPTY HOMES IM Eng. SAVE OUR COUNTRYSIDE.
NIK

I get fresh veg etc delivered from local farm at reasonable prices. I would not pay inflated price charged by super markets I am a pensioner
JK Dorset

A lot of people would rather spend their money on alcohol and tobacco than decent food. These r often the same people who cannot or will not cook.
Anon

People need to be educated on food in order to eat healthy. And if they really wanted to buy veg they would pay the money, cigarettes are not cheap but people pay for those. Processed foods actually work out more expensive over time.
Jenn.

The government should provide decent tax or other incentives for farmers who sell direct to public thus helping to keep prices low at markets etc and give more competition to supermarkets in that area which would further encourage local produce.
Anon

Everyone should buy as much organic, locally produced food as possible, so the more affluent help drive costs down. We must use market forces coupled with governmental investment in education and promotion. We are what we eat. It's worth spending more on food and less on other consumables that have no real value- such as gadgets and fashion items.
Hill, Oxford

Local best.
Anon

You are missing the point with organic food! There are no toxic or additive items in it!
Carole in Oxford

GOOD LOCAL FOOD IS GOOD
ADAM 21

Local is best, of course, but life on the dole is hard.
