I think we should have a referendum on all things European. I don't believe we should go to Europe because politicians want us to.
Marjorie, West Midlands
Of course there should be a referendum on the EU Treat. I'm sick of all these rules and laws from Brussels that we seem to have no control of.
Santia, Stourbridge
I believe we should have a referendum on Europe. People should have their right to decide on issues that can affect them either directly or non-directly.
David, Solihull
I think we should have a referendum on this treaty as there are some new areas and some original English issues have been scrapped. Hence as a result of it power will be taken from Westminster to Brussels.
Steven, South Staffordshire
I very strongly believe that we should have a referendum on the EU constitution and without a referendum the treaty should be rejected.
Ann, Wolverhampton
I think we definitely should have a referendum. We were promised it. If they can't keep their promise on this, they can't keep their promise on anything.
Mr Ward, Great Barr
I think there should defiantly be a referendum and not only that, we should also have a proper debate on our membership of the EU too.
Stearly, Stourbridge
I think we should have a referendum. We should be in charge of our own economy, especially with regard to immigration which should be carefully considered.
Mrs Booth, Market Drayton
I would very much like to have a referendum. I hate being in the EU. It's not doing us any good at all.
Mrs Salter, Shrewsbury
I believe people should have a vote. We are not going to have things decided for us.
Diane, Kenilworth
We shouldn't be in the EU anyway. It's a waste of time and it's costing us millions and millions of pounds.
Mr Scott, Leicester
From Nelson to the present day, thousands of lives have been lost so that we could have our own rules and own way of life. Gordon Brown is a citizen of Britain. He was elected to serve and he has no rights to take that freedom away. We should have a referendum.
Mr Jones, Birmingham
What we need a referendum on is to get out of Europe altogether and be our own sovereign state again that we've always been and enjoyed. I can't see any way forward by carrying on with it.
Mrs Millard, Kidderminster
The European Constitution is dominating everything. We've lost so many rules and so much power from what England used to be, and we'll lose even more in the long term.
Mr Davies, Walsall
I would like to point out that it is entirely up to Parliament to decide whether to have a referendum or not.
Mr Devoir, Gloucester
I think that this government has taken all of our rights away. They're like Big Brother. We have no rights.
Mrs Lock, Birmingham
I am convinced that there should be a referendum because at the moment we are handing too much power to Brussels.
Mr. Brown, Derby
There should be a referendum on the EU constitution. I believe we should get out of the EU altogether in order to restore our freedom, democracy and sovereignty.
Mrs Biddles, Staffordshire Moorlands
I object to the Europe debate because they only appear to be democratic when it suits them. They make rules that are imposed upon us and we have to go along with them.
Mr Evans, Derby
I don't think we should go in with Europe. We should have a referendum. We've always been better when we're on our own. We don't want foreigners telling us what we want to do.
Mrs Douglas, Witchaven
We ought to have the referendum. The trouble is that even if we do vote, we are dictated to by the government.
Michael, Gloucester
I think that there ought to be a referendum as the Labour Party promised it in their manifesto during the last elections.
Christine, Bromsgrove
We should have a vote on the principles of the common market. We've been promised one for years.
Shirley, Staffordshire Moorlands
There should definitely be a referendum. I've been waiting from 1974 when I couldn't vote, to vote and say 'no' to Europe.
Mrs Platt, Wednesbury
We should have a referendum. There was an agreement that there should be a referendum, but we're being walked over.
Mr Cole, Bromsgrove
E-mails:
EU treaty is 90% copy of rejected constitution. Denis McShane told EU ministers don't mention constitution, most EU ministers admit treaty is a copy of rejected constitution Jim Murphy, minister for Europe writes in sun EU treaty is not a copy of rejected constitution who's 'telling porkies'?
John Cross, England
We need two votes for the people, in or out of the EU and also yes or no on referendum for new relationship/treaty. It's just not profitable in many ways for us to stay in the EU any longer. The money paid over can be used for what we need in this country, like prisons, adult police officers, drugs for our elderly.
Stan Francis, Bromsgrove
Of course there should be a referendum, this is our future, we should have our say. The Labour party were elected on a manifesto, since Gordon Brown has been in power, he has said he wants change in certain policies, how can this be the same manifesto that Labour were elected for.
Colin Bates, UK
I would like a referendum on the European Treaty (Constitution?), as I do not believe anything the Government tells us. They have lost my trust and I therefore feel that the people of this country should be given the opportunity to voice their opinion - especially as this is the government that promised a referendum in their 2005 manifesto. The Prime Minister may have changed, but this is the same government.
Jean Smith, England
I voted for the EEC not for the EU. Yes there should be a vote. Also there should be a vote as to if we stay in the EU.
Roger Williams, West Midlands
European Union Treaty - I am in favour of Europe, but think we should have a referendum - what are the government scared of?
Maureen Thomas, UK
I am not anti-European, but I can not understand why the government want to resist giving us a referendum. It is a critical matter for us all. I would have thought that a good political and a democrat would have sought the backing such a referendum would give. They demur because they don't think they would win, and if that is the case they cannot be democrats.
Mark Hodgkins, UK
Of course the voters should be asked about the future of where we are going in future! If that means leaving the UN elected of Europe so be it!! We do not need Brussels to direct us any more!
Chris Collins, UK
We don't believe you! It's simple; Brown does not want a vote because he would lose.
Michael Parkinson, England
The 'so called' European Union 'Reforming Treaty' is in fact a barely altered form of the EU's loathed Constitution document firmly rejected by French and Dutch democrats in 2005.
Gordon Browns Euro-Labour, should for once, listen to the vast majority of British citizens, who want a vote on this issue; and honour their Manifesto commitment to give the people of the United Kingdom a Referendum on the 'Treaty'/ Constitution document.
If the citizens of Eire are to get to vote in a Referendum on this clearly important issue; why is it that the citizens of the UK are to be denied the same free and fair democratic vote?
Steven Grey, England
