Northern Ireland: Have your say

On 24 September 2006, Ruth McDonald reported for Politics Show Northern Ireland on Northern Irish activists in the Labour Party.

Jim Fitzpatrick interviewed the Ulster Unionist leader, Sir Reg Empey MLA, and Sinn Fein MLA Mitchel McLaughlin on developments ahead of the devolution 24 November deadline.

The Sunday papers were reviewed by Liam Clarke of the Sunday Times.

Here are some of your comments.

I strongly protest that there was no representative of the majority of the unionist population of Northern Ireland on your BBC Politics programme on 24th September 2006.

Rather, a so-called unionist party leader, whose party and previous party leader were firmly stuck in the bin at the last election; in short dumped by the people.

I would say that Hain, or one of his cronies, must have leant hard on someone in the BBC hierarchy to skew your programme into his silly dictatorial propaganda.

If Hain and his henchmen think that the people of Northern Ireland will sit idly by, while he sticks the majority of the unionist population into some sort of hatched together love-nest riddled with gunmen and murderers he better think again.

Why have you not got a DUP spokesman on the Politics Show?

Note from the production team of Politics Show Northern Ireland... Despite several requests the DUP declined an invitation to appear on the programme on September 24 2006.

Northern Ireland people would need a Catholic and Protestant labour party.

The whole thing is a joke. All politicians need to wise up and get things sorted.

There is no point in expecting Northern Irelands' politicians to finish the peace-process when the self-same ******s never started it.
Mr Mc Cool.

Who cares what these people have to say? Most people just want to live their life. Many people have their own problems and struggles in their life.

The only people dragging their feet are the loyalist community. Wise up, Reggie.

Go into government with people who have murdered members of our family. You must be in another world. What about Bin Laden?

Northern Irish politics is an absolute joke. It exists in a them-and-us environment.

It¿s time to cut their 50 k a year. Everyone will start talking then.

When is Sinn Fein going to go into policing? Get their act together.

We need local government. Get on with it, Tony.

When you have tricolour flags over Northern Ireland you would think you were in a foreign land.
