Scottish pipers

The Politics Show was broadcast from Edinburgh. Within a year or so, two of three main UK parties may be led by Scots representing Scottish constituencies.

Most of the decisions they might make as Prime Minister will not apply in their own constituencies, because Scotland these days is largely self-governing.

There was a time when Scots complained, with some justification, about being ruled by the English; but is it time for the English to make more noise about the role played by Scots?

Energy review

The Government's energy review is likely to report in summer 2006.

All the hints are that the Prime Minister favours building a new generation of nuclear power stations.

How do you like your energy?

The easiest way to do that is to put new, modern plants on the same sites as the old ones.

So local people used to having them there, do not worry so much about the potential risks, and value the employment opportunities.

The trouble is that several of Britain's current nuclear sites are in Scotland - and the Scottish Government, where the Lib Dems are in coalition with Labour, are bitterly divided over the issue.

Could the devolved Scottish Government stand in the way of UK policy on energy?

Jon Sopel was joined by Sir Menzies Campbell, leader of the Liberal Democrats, and Jack McConnell, First Minister of Scotland.
