Diplomatic support for coalition 'uncertain'
UN building
Not everyone is wholeheartedly behind the US
In the week following the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, it appeared that the coalition behind the United States was holding firm.

The prime minister had continued to play the role of diplomatic coordinator for the coalition. On September 18th, Tony Blair held a meeting at Chequers with the presidents of a number of African nations.

A statement issued that afternoon said that "the leaders of Botswana, Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria and Senegal all condemned "in the strongest possible terms" the terrorist atrocities.

But, despite this, as Ian Pannell reported from New York, the support of all non-Nato countries could not be taken for granted.
