The aftermath
World Trade Center attack, September 11th 2001
The attacks left America in a state of shock
Throughout America, flags flew at half mast, as a nation grieved. Television and radio stations fielded call upon call from tearful listeners.

The morning after September 11th, the United States was in a state of shock. When the sun rose over New York, Americans saw the skyline of a wounded city they could barely recognise.

The reality of the devastation started to sink in and ordinary Americans began to talk about their loss, giving voice to the pain of the nation.

Gillian Hargreaves listened, and put together this report on the national mood.
