The teacher
Vera Jackson
Vera Jackson has been a teacher all her life. She works at a very friendly primary school in Sunderland.

Her class has just been on a trip to a museum in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, to look at Ancient Greek relics. Vera says school trips are often the highlight of the year - especially for children who come from homes where there is little to stimulate them.

Vera is dedicated to her job, but she fears that teachers are now becoming scapegoats for parents, angry about the broader problems of a disintegrating society.
