Where next for Clinton?
Bill Clinton leaves the Oval Office today
So - after eight rollercoaster years.. the clintons have finally left the White House.
Having secured immunity from prosecution over his Lewinsky Testimony, Bill Clinton could dedicate himself to writing his memoirs or touring the talk circuit. But saying farewell to the nation on Thursday night, Bill Clinton gave no hint of what might be to come. The end of an era Some things are clearly over; having the band strike up when you come into the room; the use of Airforce One; Camp David, the presidential country retreat.
Lanni Davies, friend and former special counsel to Bill Clinton, thinks, like many Americans, that if Bill Clinton had been constitutionally able to run for a third term, he would have been considered one of American's great presidents. What will Clinton do next? Bill Clinton's love of politics and campaigning make it unlikely he will disappear from the political scene. David Maraniss, who wrote "First in His Class : The Biography of Bill Clinton", thinks the ex-president will in one way or another go on and on.
Speculation about his next steps include taking a United Nations role, lecturing around the USA, writing his memoirs, leading peace initiatives around the world and, in his role as husband, supporting Hillary Clinton in the Senate.
