The Wrong Track

Train Diary
David Ward, Director.
Travels from York to Kings Cross weekly. The journey should take 2.5 hours

I travelled to London two times during October and November and it took me approximately 6 hours to get from home to London, Kings Cross. The main problem is arriving at the station at Selby or York and not gaining any information about what is happening.

If we looked after our customers the way that Railtrack look after theirs then I don't think we'd have any customers left

Trains cancelled, and having to wait and just hanging about for people to tell you what's going on and then similarly on the return journey going to Kings Cross and just finding out when you get there whether you can get home that night or not.

The information available on the National Rail Enquiry line - it doesn't give up to date information on rail delays. It just gives you information on the set timetable departures, which is no use.

For instance once I was in Finchley, in North London,... I contacted National Rail Enquiries for trains home and was told the next one was at 4 o'clock. Dashed across to Kings Cross and it was at 4.30 so I needn't have rushed.

Message to people who run railways
The most important aspect of our business is looking after the customer, and if we looked after our customers the way that Railtrack look after theirs then I don't think we'd have any customers left and we would therefore not have a business left either.
